Due specialisti russi di fisica del sole,Galina Mashnich and Vladimir Bashkirtsev hanno scommesso 10.000$ col climatologo inglese James Annan che
la Terra si raffreddera' nei prossimi dieci anni:
The pair, based in Irkutsk, at the Institute of Solar-Terrestrial Physics, believe that global temperatures are driven more by changes in the sun's activity than by the emission of greenhouse gases. They say the Earth warms and cools in response to changes in the number and size of sunspots. Most mainstream scientists dismiss the idea, but as the sun is expected to enter a less active phase over the next few decades the Russian duo are confident they will see a drop in global temperatures." Trad: il paio di scienziati, che lavora a Irkutsk, all'Istituto di Fisica Solare e Terrestre, credono che le temperature globali siano governate piu' dalle variazioni dell'attivita' solare che dalle emissioni di gas-serrra. Affermano che la Terra si scalda e si raffredda secondo il numero e le dimensioni delle macchie solari. Gli scienziati che si affidano alle piu' correnti teorie scartano questa idea. Pero', siccome ci si aspetta che nei prossimi decenni il Sole entrera' in una fase meno attiva, i due scienziati russi sono fiduciosi di vedere un calo delle temperature globali. (The Guardian).
